You may exit after year 1 with the certificate in Arts and Media, or continue on to years 2 and 3 of the diploma. Content
Visual Arts and Design major includes disciplines such as:
Object Design: 3-D construction, jewellery, furniture design, costume design, ceramics, glass, sculpture, etc;
Image: Painting, print-making, photography, etc;
Digital Media: Image manipulation, interactive and web design, file management and output, graphic design principles, etc;
Digital Audio / Video: Moving image, pod-casting, radio broadcasting, pre- and post-production technology, etc;
Drawing and Design: Experimental, technical, figure drawing, explorative, etc;
Visual Culture: Art history, theory of ideas, through visual arts etc;
Creative Writing major includes disciplines such as:
Writing: Fiction, non-fiction, poetry, writing for children and young adults, scriptwriting, story-boarding, documentary, journalism, etc;
Digital Audio / Video: Moving image, pod-casting, radio broadcasting, pre- and post-production technology, etc;
Entry Requirements
YEAR 1 (Level 4)
Open entry
Applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate an IELTS Academic score of 5.5 or equivalent.
YEAR 2 (Level 5)
Applicants under 20 years:
42 credits NCEA L3 - including 14 credits in each of two subjects, 1 English and 1 arts / media; plus 14 credits from no more than two NQF domains; OR completion of a recognised L4 arts / media programme; OR equivalent
Applicants 20 years and over:
No academic qualifications required
All Applicants:
Must submit a portfolio of arts / media work
Applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 or equivalent.
